The Kalacakra Astrology is an integral part
of the Kalacakra Tantra, a Highest Yoga Tantra of Esoteric Buddhism.
Kalacakra, pronounced kala-chakra, literally means the Wheel of
Time. This type of Tibetan astrology can be identifed as possessing
at least two distinct characterics of interest to astrologers. |
The Wheel of Emmanation Chakra: distributing
the energies of the Zodiac .
The DIAGRAMS
on this page are simplified versions of 'visual translations' of the six
chakra system of the Kalacakra Tantra. They are derived from Kim's
study of the detailed textual descriptions of the chakras and channels
by the great Nying-ma astrological scholar Ju Mipham in his profound
work, The Kalacakra Commentaries, on the internal relations of the
chakras to the astrological energies.
The first has its foundation in the first
chapter (actualy a complete volume) of the Sri Kalacakra and
Vimalaprabha texts, where the calculation systems of the planetary
motions against the backround of the Fixed Stars of Signs and Constellations
were outlined some 1000 years ago. This entered into Tibet in 1027
CE, and contains a complete and unique system of astrological calculation
and interpretation.
The Forehead Chakra: the
Soli-lunar Cycles of the Elements.
The Second Type of Kalacakra Astrology could
be called an 'implicit' system and deals with the astrological relationships
of the internal energies, chakras, channels and drops to mental and
emotional states, physical organs, and transformative processes.
It derives from another extensive section of these texts. This is
a deeply esoteric and advanced astrological subject, and is not taught
by any Tibetan astrological college, but only by oral instruction under
private tuition. However, it is an extremely important aspect of
study for those who seek any degree of deeper understanding of Kalacakra
astrology.
The Wheel of Great Bliss:
the Primordial Element of TIME.
The Kalacakra Tantra, as a whole, covers
many more topics than astrology and is considered one of the most profound
and complete teachings of Esoteric Buddhism. It treats many
esoteric scientific subjects such as astrology, internal alchemy, the ten
pranic and planetary energies, the special sixth element of TIME,
and the structure and function of the subtle-body of chakras and channels,
but uses these in a complete system of yoga practice.
ÎTIMEâ can be considered in three
ways:-
a. as the mechanism for calculating the
motions of the sun, moon and planets.
b. as the sequential and continually
cyclic arisal of mental and emotional states.
c. as the primordial sixth element, TIME
as BLISS, the innermost dimension of transpersonal awareness and 'internal
awakeningâ.
The Wheel of Enjoyment
Chakra- cycling the energies of the 28 Constellations
The final aim of this practice is to integrate
mind and body into the Primordial consciousness of the Buddha-nature, another
way of defining Enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhism. The nature of
this consciousness as expressed in the Kalacakra texts is the freeing of
the consciousness from the limitations of the cyclic nature of Time, through
an transcendent type of Time termed Bliss. It is a vast subject,
but basically the practice employs a variety of Preparatory and Completion
stage Yogas, which aim at the purification and alchemical transubstantiation
of the body's subtle energies, which normally move in synchronicity with
the cycles of the planets. This movement of planetary energies within
the body is the subject of the Astrology of the Internal Kalacakra.
Here is detailed the chakras and channels relationships with the stars,
constellations and planets. Through the higher yoga practices these
cycles of circulating energy are brought under the control of yoga practitioner,
who is motivated by the desire to free him/herself and develop the wisdom
and compassionate powers to positively effect the world. This subject
has many implications that are valuable to anyone with a psychological
or spiritual approach to astrology, and presents a theory of astrological
interplay with the cyclic states of the everyday and supernormal levels
of human consciousness.
